A steel frame constructed with sheer manpower

Construction of Nagoya TV Tower began in 1953, and at a time when construction machinery was at a deficit in the country, construction was conducted entirely by hand. Using pickaxes and shovels to dig the foundation and raising the steel frame with nothing other than manpower, it's no exaggeration to say this must have been an almost unimaginable feat.

Analogue TV broadcasts came to an end in 2011, bringing Nagoya TV Tower into its next life phase: retirement. However, always the hard-worker, the tower continues to stand as a symbol of Nagoya even into the present.
The 90-meter-high indoor Sky Deck and 100-meter-high outdoor Sky Balcony observatories both offer magnificent views of the city during the daytime, but the nighttime is when it really starts to shine—literally. The cityscape lights up and so many flock to the tower to see the dazzling scene. However, the tower itself lights up at night, paying back the city for its sparkling view with its own luminous beauty.
And on September 18, 2020 came the tower's grand reopening as MIRAI—or "Future"—TOWER. Reconstruction of the tower using world-first construction methods to make it earthquake-resistant while preserving the original appearance of Nagoya TV Tower, MIRAI TOWER would now be a safer and more secure structure to host the tourists sure to come.

Twinkle, twinkle MIRAI TOWER

Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER's dazzling illumination has taken things to a new level with a myriad of colors and brilliance using the newest LED lighting to match the occasion such as the changing of seasons and events as well as its ability to display words and images. The tower was even named as one of the Night View Heritages of Japan in July 2013.

This hotel actually incorporates Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER's framing in its rooms' structures and uses artwork by artists with local connections, giving each room an incredibly individualized and extraordinary atmosphere. The restaurant uses fired pottery from the Tokai region in which Nagoya lies as the canvas for flavorful French dishes using locally produced ingredients.
