Momotaro Setsubun Festival
Date: Feb 1,2026(Sun)
Shrine to a famous Japanese fairy tale
Momotaro is a boy from a traditional fairy tale, born from a peach discovered by an old, childless couple. The young boy grows into a strong young man who defeats evil demons in an epic known by all Japanese children.
Momotaro Jinja Shrine has a relation to the fairy tale and is decorated with peaches and other story-related objects—a rarity in Japan. During the Setsubun Festival, it accepts prayers for the healthy upbringing of children. Tellings of the Inuyama version of the Momotaro story, bean throwing to ward off bad luck, mochi making, and hands-on pottery experiences are just some of the many events you can enjoy.
