Nishio Yonezu River Festival
Date: Aug 15,2025(Fri)
Watch the surface of the river light up with lanterns and fireworks
The Nishio Yonezu River Festival began as a prayer for the souls of those who have drowned and fallen in war and is held every year on August 15. This year, the festival rings in its 77th year, and as Buddhist sutras are read, some 1,500 lit lanterns reflect off the surface of the water before nearly 3,000 sequenced and mechanized fireworks burst in the night sky, making for a romantic and surreal summer night.
