Inuyama-City Inuyama Castle Town
Stroll around a precious castle town that survived the destructive mayhem of war
The Inuyama Castle Town is just that: a town outside of the castle's precincts. And this one stretches south from the national treasure Inuyama Castle.
The city of Inuyama was lucky to have escaped the ravages of WWII, leaving its castle and castle town in tact. The castle's outer enclosure and town's make-up remain the same, giving the townscape a characteristic aura, and with a moderate size, it's ideal for an explorative stroll observing the many buildings which sport antique and traditional architecture.
While remaining antique and traditional, the buildings have now become cafes and shops selling trendy trinkets and traditional handicrafts, letting you enjoy a cup of tea or search for the perfect souvenir. The castle town invites you to enjoy a snack as you take a leisurely stroll the area as it's known for its foods on a stick—especially famous for its handmade goheimochi, or rice cakes on a stick covered in a sweet miso sauce; skewered rice cakes; and other such olden-day snacks.
When spring rolls around, 13 ornately decorated parade floats make their way down the streets in Haritsuna Jinja Shrine's Inuyama Festival—an event you can't miss!
