Nagoya City Science Museum
Creating the next generation of scientists and astronomers at a fun-filled science museum
Nagoya City Science Museum is established on the concept of "See, Touch, and Check", and is all-inclusive in its various exhibits and experiences, allowing people of all ages—from children to adults—to enjoy science in a fun way. It is also home to NTP Planet Planetarium, holder of a Guiness World Record for its inner diameter. The planetarium seeks to recreate the cosmos as close to the real thing as possible with one of the world's largest domes, boasting an inner diameter of 35 meters as well as stunning visual quality. You can also witness natural wonders like an aurora image in a -30 °C room and a nine-meter-tall artificial tornado at four large-scale entertaining displays offering insight into the natural world as just some of the nearly 260 exhibits.
Experience the -30 degree C Polar room and amazing aurora display, see an 9m high artificial tornado, and visit the Electric Discharge Lab. You can learn about the properties of water through fun experiments too. Special events and exhibits for all ages are regularly staged in the Nagoya City Science Museum, a top class learning facility and tourist attraction in the heart of the city.
Various special events are staged on weekends and holidays, along with the regular daily experiments and demonstrations. You’re invited to see, watch, touch, ask, experience and discover. Guaranteed to amaze and educate children and adults alike.
Expansive starry skies… inside?
NTP Planet Planetarium's dome is one of the largest, and has the Guinness World Record to prove it. A giant dome with an inner diameter of 35 meters offer incredible sights indoors but the building itself is impressive even from the outside.
This planetarium is brimming with the latest technology, allowing you to enjoy starry night skies almost as authentic as the real thing. Learn about celestial myths, lunar astronomical phenomena and the universe's expansion, and the mysteries surrounding black holes through computer graphics created by the curator as well as state-of-the-art video equipment. Themes change each month, making this an exciting stop no matter how many times you come.
All five senses tickled pink by the world of science
The Deep Freezing Lab lets you enter a polar -30 °C environment, the Tornado Lab shows you the spectacle of a nine-meter-tall manmade tornado, and the Electric Discharge Lab offers illuminating shows of electricity's power through electric discharges. And while children's interest is straying from the sciences in recent years, Nagoya City Science Museum is actually full of kids completely engaged in its entertaining education. Bring your own as you experience the excitement this science museum has to offer.
