Shinojima Island Gion Festival / Nojima Island Festival
Date: Jul 12,2025(Sat)
Nojima Festival's Boat Parade canceled for 2025
Fireworks color the early summer ocean
At this traditional two-day event on romantic Shinojima Island, the first day is reserved for the Gion Festival with a procession by elementary school students carrying a portable shrine and a fireworks show at Shinojima Port. The second day is marked by the Nojima Island Festival, praying for maritime safety and an abundant catch, where fishing boats go on parade just off the island's coast with flags raised in indication of a great haul.
Shinojima Island's fireworks display is the first of greater Minamichita Town's many. Launched just offshore from the bank of Shinojima Port, you can see the fireworks anywhere from the surrounding area. The fishing boats moored there have colorful fishing flags raised in anticipation of the Nojima Island Festival Boat Parade, acting as a wonderful accent to the fireworks.
