The Tokugawa Art Museum: Steeped in the history of the Owari Tokugawa clan
Opening in 1935, the Tokugawa Art Museum has long been a haven for historical belongings of Tokugawa Ieyasu as well as his ninth son and first Owari Tokugawa lord of the Owari Province, Yoshinao, and other daimyo-related relics. More than 10 thousand pieces belong to the museum in a jaw-dropping collection.
What's more, the national—perhaps even international—treasure illustrated scrolls from The Tale of Genji are available here and nowhere else in stunning condition, allowing spectators to feel history right up close.
Exhibit galleries recreating an atmosphere of the past
Enter the museum, and you are greeted by galleries featuring famous collections (permanent exhibit). There are five galleries with each showcasing armor, tea ceremony pieces, a Noh theater front stage, and other spaces for a look back in time as you adore the beauty of days gone by. Seasonal exhibitions come and go at a nearly monthly frequency.

The Tokugawa Art Museum features special and rotating exhibits such as its annual The Tale of Genji Illustrated Scrolls and Hina Doll Festival of the Owari Tokugawa Family special exhibitions as well as a variety of conceptual exhibits which offer a look into traditional Japanese culture year-round. Gaze upon national treasures and important cultural properties handed down through generations of the Owari Tokugawa family as you admire incredible Japanese artistry and a jaw-dropping collection of daimyo artifacts.
