Imo Wetlands
One of the largest spring wetlands in Japan
The Imo Wetlands are one of the largest wetlands in Japan with water welling up from underground. Located on a gentle incline at an altitude of about 70 meters above sea level and surrounded on three sides by the Yumihari Mountains, the area enjoys a home in the rich natural tapestry of Toyohashi City's highlands.
Even so, the city is just a stone's throw away, and from spring to fall, the wetlands' flowers come into bloom, drawing in spectators from the city. The backdrop of mountains hosts the Toyohashi Nature Path which too offers incredible hiking year-round.
The wetlands are designated a national natural monument and have an area of around 3.2 hectares in which many endangered plant life and insects live as well as plant life native to the Mikawa area in which Toyohashi lies, such as Mikawa false hellebore, and carnivorous foliage like Utricularia bifida.
