Sanage Onsen Hot Spring
A nature radon spring recommended by physicians
This onsen, or hot spring, is one of the largest with natural radon components. The hot spring gushes up from 1,200 below the grown and is known as a medicinal onsen. The spring is rare in another aspect: You can drink the water—a rarity in the entire country of Japan—as it is taken directly from the source!
The medicinal merit of this hot spring is the way the active ingredient radon can be so easily absorbed. Enter the warm water, from which your skin can reap the therapeutic effects, or even just breathe in the steam floating through the air with your lungs. The relaxing effects of radon and ease in absorbing them makes the hot spring a popular destination.
Lodging is available at the only hotel around the onsen, Hotel Kinsenkaku. You can enjoy the waters of Sanage Onsen Hot Spring here too in a huge tub made from ancient cypress timber over 1,000 years old. If you choose to enter the hot spring bath without staying the night, then the Kinsen no Yu Bath is for you. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life in a relaxing space steeped in Japanese aesthetics while enjoying the relaxing effects of radon.
Plus, the hot spring and its establishments are located right in the middle of Aichi Highland Quasi-National Park. You can enjoy sightseeing with its rich variety of plant life, a waterfall, lake, and forest bathing. Another hit with visitors is 14 Kyoto-style Japanese gardens borrowing the beauty of the local scenery. With light displays turning on once the sun goes down, the surreal scenery is truly awe-inspiring.
