Tokoname-City Sawada Brewery 37th Hakuro Warehouse Open Access Event

Date : 02/21/2026, 02/22/2026

  • Sawada Brewery Hakuro Warehouse Open Access Event

Good to the last drop through meticulous work and traditional brewing techniques

Sawada Brewery, in Tokoname City, was established around the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1848. The sake brewery made great contributions to raising the bar of sake brewing quality in the Edo period with its success in developing the basis for the sokujo fast-brewing method—a brewing process adding lactic acid to the starter.
This incredible brewery opens its warehouse to the public once every year, letting visitors see the various aspects of the brewery's careful and traditional brewing techniques. Free sake samples straight from the vat and casks offer a literal taste of the brewery's genius in addition to tastings of numerous new sake brews created in the winter for a small fee. Foods making for a tasty marriage with the sake as well as confections using sake lees too are available for sale with numerous local eateries opening booths for you to peruse. And there's no need to worry about driving—as you cannot drink and drive in Japan—since there is a shuttle bus running from Tokoname Station on the day of the event.
Heed this cordial invitation from Sawada Brewery and savor the tastes of one of Tokoname City's long-standing, well-known breweries.
