Peonies bloom together with 11 varieties of wisteria in a gorgeous park

In the first half of the 14th century Mandaraji Temple, a famous Buddhist institution of the Owari region, was built at the request of Emperor Godaigo. In 1970, Mandaraji Temple donated a section of its land to Konan City, and the donated area, now under city management, became the famous wisteria spot of Mandaraji Park that it is today.
Several species of wisteria, from early-blooming to late-blooming varieties, populate the garden, bestowing to the place the nickname "Wisterias of Mandaraji Temple". The wisterias come into full bloom during the transition from spring to early summer and are a spectacular sight to behold—so much so that they are the front and center of the Wisteria Festival, held annually from mid-April to early May. Around the same period, gorgeous peonies too come into bloom, adding to the floral beauty.
At the same time a variety of events take place, such as the Yomemi Festival, attracting crowds of tourists incoming not only from neighboring areas but also from other prefectures.
