Mt. Horaiji Maple Festival
Date: Nov 1,2025(Sat) ~ Nov 30(Sun)
The vivid colors of autumn invite you to take in a warm moment
Mt. Horaiji is known as a top place to enjoy splendid autumn leaves and as an area inhabited by Aichi's prefectural bird: the oriental scops owl. The mountain itself is famous around Japan for its beauty and is designated a natural monument with its mountainscapes offering an intimate look into Japanese nature.
It is also known as a spiritual mountain with old Horaiji Temple established halfway up around 1,300 years ago. A lengthy 1,425 stone stair pathway leads to the temple from the foot of the mountain and is home to an 800-year-old, 60-meter-tall cedar tree resembling an umbrella, which is one of the current tallest such tree in Japan. Upon ascending the almost innumerable steps, you come to a clearing with a view of the Okumikawa region's abundant and healing nature.
The temple's Niomon Gate was erected by Japan's Tokugawa Iemitsu of the famous Tokugawa shogun line in 1651 and is designated an national important cultural property.
