A magical festival of lanterns and fireworks

The second Saturday of each July sees a spectacular sea festival with a history dating back over 250 years. The festival is also known as the "Dish Festival".
Tens of young participants ride a fishing boat adorned with lanterns around the island of Himakajima with torches on fired, unglazed dishes which are sent out to float on the ocean surface. The scene of the plates bobbing along the silent, nighttime ocean ablaze with red flames evokes in all the essence of the island's summer nights.
And, of course, there are fireworks held at the same time, making this incredible festival something you simply cannot miss.

ACCESS

Access by public transport

• From Nagoya Station, take the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line to Utsumi Station, where you will take the Chita Bus. Get off at Morozakiko Bus Stop and take the Meitetsu Sightseeing Boat to Himakajima Port.
• From Nagoya Station, take the Meitetsu Kowa Line to Kowa Station and walk 10 min. to the Kowa Sea Port. From there, take the Meitetsu Sightseeing Boat to Himakajima Port.
• From Toyohashi Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line, take the Toyotetsu Bus's Irago Main Line. Get off at Iragomisaki Bus Stop and take the Meitetsu Sightseeing Boat to Himakajima Port.

Drive for 10 min. from Toyo'oka Interchange on Minamichita Road to Morozaki Port. Take the Meitetsu Sightseeing Boat to Himakajima Port.
