The Asakura Lion Ladder Festival is a religious ceremony of Musan Jinja Shrine where two men dressed up as a traditional, mythical lion climb up a tall ladder to perform a death-defying dance atop a simple bamboo stage nine meters in the air. Spectators hold their breath as the lion jumps and performs acrobatic stunts like summersaults in this suspenseful and heart-pounding display!
Of these seat-gripping spectacles, the oaori is particularly incredible. The lion climbs onto the ladder with both actors slipping their feet between the bamboo as they flip their bodies over the side in mid air.

From 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, a night market offering sake, cuisine, fairs for kids, and other fun takes place outside Asakura Station on the Meitetsu Tokoname Line. Enjoy exhibits and purchase merchandise relating to the Lion Ladder Festival.
