The Japanese are a people who love "onsen", or "hot springs". The natural phenomenon that is onsen has long been holy as people would purify themselves and perform Shinto rituals using the hot spring water. During the Edo period, hot spring areas also became known as places of healing, and there was a boom in staying around them for long periods to recuperate from illness, leading to onsen inns popping up here and there.
Blessed with an abundance of nature, Aichi Prefecture has numerous onsen communities nestled in multiple places of particular scenic beauty. Lots of inns have created outdoor baths so that people can get the most out of that wonderful scenery as they bathe.
