Brilliant explosions in the sky from hand-held cannons

The Toyohashi Gion Festival has also gone by the moniker of the Sanshu Yoshida Fireworks Festival, after the area's older name of Yoshida in the Sanshu, or Mikawa, region since the Edo period and the local Yoshida Jinja Shrine is said to be where the Mikawa tradition of hand-held cannon fireworks originated.
As was last year, this year too hosts a fireworks display with some 12,000 aquatic goldfish, sequenced, 23.5-centimeter-diameter shell, and river stage fireworks sparkling in and booming above the clear waters of Toyo River.

Handheld cannon fireworks are shot off on Friday, July 18 within Yoshida Jinja Shrine's premises.
