Bunraku and narrative music performances atop a parade float!

The Chiryu Festival takes place on May 2 and 3 at Chiryu Jinja Shrine and the surrounding area. The Main Festival and an Interval Festival are respectively held every other year with the Interval Festival held in 2025.
This year, the elaborate, beautiful flower-laden floats of five towns parade through the streets while bunraku human-operated puppets and karakuri mechanized puppets do not take place atop the floats.

Recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage

Japan's incredible yama, hoko, and yatai parade float festivals have been designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Of the 33 festivals spanning 18 prefectures from the Tohoku region to the Kyushu region recognized, five are in Aichi Prefecture. The bunraku and karakuri performances on Chiryu's parade floats are one of the aspects recognized with this prestigious title.
