Cape Noma Lighthouse
Aichi Prefecture's oldest lighthouse and a special spot for lovers
Noma Lighthouse, or more formally Cape Noma Lighthouse, is Aichi's oldest lighthouse, erected in 1921. Standing 18 meters tall, it serves as a symbol of Mihama Town, which it calls home.
In 2008, the lighthouse was renovated and the light source was replaced with LEDs, resulting in a reduction in output from 15,000 cd to 590 cd and a drop in the light's distance from 25 km to 15 km. Nevertheless, the lighthouse is now better in times of disaster thanks to its new energy efficiency.
The lighthouse has gained attention for its style, like a typical one which might appear in a comic or cartoon. And recently, the lighthouse has become famous as a sacred place for lovers who place padlocks—available for purchase at the nearby Food and Health Hall—around the Tone of Bonds monument and ring its Bond Bell as a symbol of eternal love.
The nearby bench provides the perfect spot from which to marvel at the white walls of the lighthouse set against the waning sun over Ise Bay.
