A staple summer festival of Ichinomiya, lavishly offering thanks to the god of textiles

Japan's Tanabata Festival is also known as the Star Festival and Ichinomiya's Tanabata Star Festival is held to show gratitude to Yorozuhata Toyoakitsushi Hime no Mikoto, Hatori Jinja Shrine's god of textiles. It is also a time to pray for prosperity in this area, since textiles are the city of Ichinomiya's leading industry. Hatori Jinja Shrine is located to the east of Masumida Jinja Shrine’s Main Hall, from where Ichinomiya's name (literally meaning "Primary Shrine") originated, and Hatori Jinja Shrine's god of textiles is the mother of the god enshrined in Masumida Jinja Shrine, Ame no Hoakari no Mikoto.
Traditional streamer decorations fluttering in the shopping streets and gorgeous decorations made by the local people are truly incredibly in their brilliance and draw in one million event goers to the festival. During the festival period, Masumida Jinja Shrine acts as the main host to the communal bon dance and hands-on citizen events. Each year, special guests too are called in for talks and live shows, bringing the excitement to new levels.

Communal bon dance
All sorts of people from every walk of life come together to dance in an enlarged venue area stretching all the way to the Ginza-dori Street traffic circle.

Tanabata Stage
In line with the 70th holding of the event, a retro Showa-period-style karaoke competition takes place in addition to numerous musicians, dancing, and other artistic group performances.

Wassho Ichinomiya Dance
Dance teams with a wide variety of costumes and choreography dance to the original event theme song.
