Meet the historic feudal lords of the area

The Nakamura Ward of Nagoya City was once home to historic warrior lords: Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Kato Kiyomasa. Learn about these legends of feudal Japan from resources on the two and displays here at the Nagoya City Hideyoshi and Kiyomasa Museum. Delve into Japanese history from the eyes of the Owari region, where Nagoya and the museum are located.

From Hideyoshi's rise to his fall and the warriors of the Owari region

The museum's permanent exhibit highlights the life of Hideyoshi from his time serving local warrior commander Oda Nobunaga all the way to the way he united the Japan at the time and the fall of the Toyotomi clan at the Siege of Osaka. Learn about it all through five different themed exhibits.
You can also gain an understanding of the Owari region's feudal lords with Kato Kiyomasa as their posterchild. In addition every autumn, a special display is held. Special exhibits focus on pieces from the museum's collection and showcase photograph panels as just some of the tantalizing educational treats.

A stroll through history with famous, historic sites

Within the same establishment is the Nakamura Library and Small Nakamura Cultural Theater, with various opportunities to learn about the community's culture. Nakamura Park, near Nagoya City Hideyoshi and Kiyomasa Museum, is home to stones set up to show where Hideyoshi and Kiyomasa were born; Toyokuni Jinja Shrine; Kiyomasa's birthplace at Myogyoji Temple; Josenji Temple, where Hideyoshi is said to have been born; and many other historic spots dotted around the area.
