Mihama-Town Koinomizu Jinja Shrine
A visit to this shrine and your dream of love comes true (or so they say!)
The deity at Koinomizu Jinja Shrine is Mitohanome no Mikoto, the god of water in Japanese mythology. During the reign of the Ingyo Emperor—the 19th imperial ruler of Japan—the shrine's water was deemed the "Water of Love", or "Koinomizu" in Japanese, and is said to have cured an illness of Emperor Shomu's empress when brought to her in 732.
However, there is a sad tale from the Heian period which has been passed down to the present. Becoming known as a remedy not only for physical ailments but also matters of the heart, Princess Sakura too came here in search of water that would cure her lovesickness. In a bitter ending, she died before reaching it, tugging on the heartstrings of anyone in the throws of love.
Due to the water's long history, the shrine is now famous as a romantic spot and secret weapon in gaining the affection of the one you love.
