Octopus Festival

A celebration of octopi and prayers for an abundant haul

Himakajima Island is known as Aichi's major octopus production location and puts on—believe it or not—an Octopus Festival!
The festival is split into sections during the day and at night. The daytime is mainly made up of a Buddhist ritual with local elementary school children carying around a portable shrine and other events.
At night, local children perform Japanese taiko drum and dance performances, ending with a fireworks show taking place in the night sky.
